The route
The track leaves Amer and climbs the hillside towards Jaigarh's walls. It is short but steep and rocky in places, so take it slow. As you climb, you look straight down on Amer Fort and Maota Lake – a view you don't get from the road. The trail ends at the Awami Gate of Jaigarh.
Inside Jaigarh Fort
Jaigarh was the military fort guarding Amer. Inside you'll find the Jaivana cannon – one of the largest cannons on wheels in the world – plus water tanks, armoury and long ramparts towards Nahargarh. Fort entry is a separate ticket bought at the gate. Read our forts in Jaipur guide to compare all three.
Tips
- Start early – the slope faces the sun by mid-morning.
- Carry water; there's little shade on the climb.
- Combine with Amer Fort after the trek for a full heritage morning.
