Amer Fort history

Amer Fort history goes back to the Kachhwaha Rajputs, who ruled from Amer before Jaipur was founded. The present palace was begun in the late 16th century under Raja Man Singh I, a general in Emperor Akbar's court, and expanded by later rulers including Mirza Raja Jai Singh I. The blend of Rajput and Mughal styles – carved marble, painted gateways and mirror work – reflects this alliance.

In 1727, Sawai Jai Singh II moved the capital to the newly planned city of Jaipur, but Amer remained an important royal fort. It is connected by protected walls and passages to Jaigarh Fort on the hill above. In 2013 Amer was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.
