About Salasar Balaji Mandir

According to temple tradition, the idol of Balaji was found by a farmer while ploughing his field in Asota village, on a Tuesday in the month of Shravan. Around the same time, the devotee Mohandas ji of Salasar dreamt that Balaji wanted to be established in Salasar. The idol was brought here in the 18th century, and the temple has grown ever since into one of Rajasthan's biggest pilgrimage centres.

What makes the Salasar Balaji temple special:

  • The bearded Balaji: the idol shows Hanuman ji with a beard and moustache – a rare form you won't see elsewhere.
  • Churma bhog: the farmer's first offering was churma, and churma is still the favourite prasad here.
  • Coconut wishes: devotees tie coconuts wrapped in red cloth (nariyal bandhna) on the temple premises while making a wish, and return to offer thanks when it comes true.
  • Mohandas ji's dhuna: the sacred fire associated with Mohandas ji is a place of deep respect for devotees.
